Welsh NHS Confederation responds to the priority delivery actions for better health and care 2025/26

Darren Hughes responds to the priority delivery actions for the NHS, set out by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care.

8 July 2025

Responding to the Welsh Government’s priority delivery actions for better health and care 2025/26, Darren Hughes, director of the Welsh NHS Confederation said:

“We welcome the clarity and priority delivery actions for better health from the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care. There is clear alignment with our calls to political parties, including our call for a long-term workforce plan, as well as to the three shifts set out by the UK Government.

“Our members, NHS leaders in Wales, will welcome this direction of travel, including more effective prevention, putting more services into the community and realising the potential of digital and innovation.

“However, the huge amount of delivery actions outlined have come after NHS organisations have already submitted their plans for 2025/26, which have been accepted by the Welsh Government.

“To deliver on these in the next nine months, alongside stringent financial delivery expectations within existing resources, is a tall order. NHS leaders and their organisations will welcome further detail on how they will be supported to do this.”
