The Royal College of Emergency Medicine produces a report on improving safety ahead of this year’s winter

This report explores the scale of challenge across the UK both in winter and all year round, it finds that escalating demand is putting pressure on emergency departments equivalent to around 13 new emergency departments. The paper goes on to note the different levels at which A&E departments are likely to be operating this winter, before concluding that hospital boards should be made aware of any risk so that they can act on it appropriately.
