A core element of the Health and Social Care Reset Plan is the proposal to move to a neighbourhood model of care. The purpose behind this model is to help providers to work together to effectively manage rising demand and offer more advanced and specialist services closer to communities.

Over the last few months, the Department of Health (DoH) has led a widespread engagement process with stakeholders to collect evidence of good practice and agree a set of design principles. The next phase will see the model start to be built – this is going to require significant change in how providers work together and with their communities to improve the health and wellbeing of the people in their neighbourhoods.

In this session, we set out the policy ambition and design principles of the neighbourhood model; describe the results from the recent call for evidence; and explore the role of Integrated Neighbourhood Teams.

To support our focus on mobilisation, we have invited a range of system leaders to set out what they believe are the key opportunities arising from this new model. We will hear from Prof Cathy Harrison, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, DoH; Maria McIlgorm Chief Nursing Officer, DoH; Dr Sioban McEntree, NICON Primary Care Lead; and Gillian Lewis, Head of the NI Health Collective (additional speakers tbc).

After these short inputs, we will explore with delegates how we can collectively mobilise to support this new way of working.

This webinar is the third event in our ‘Reset’ discussion series, which will run throughout 2026. The series will bring together HSC leaders, partners, and expert speakers to consider the key elements of the Reset Plan for health and social care in NI.
