Responding to news that NHS England will be inviting three million more people to receive their COVID-19 booster vaccination next week, Ruth Rankine, director of primary care at the NHS Confederation, said:

“As we head into what will be a challenging winter, we welcome news that a further three million booster jab invites will be going out to people next week. Additionally welcome is the change in guidelines allowing people to book their booster jab in advance of becoming eligible at the six-month mark.

“NHS leaders and staff will do all they can to ensure those eligible for booster jabs get them without delay, but they will need assurances that the supply of vaccines matches the volume and timing of appointments as they are booked.

“It is, of course, also vital that people themselves do come forward to receive their booster jabs upon invitation or as soon as they become eligible. With thousands of COVID-19 patients in hospital, we must remember that this pandemic is not over.”
