NICON Webinar: Reset plan for health and social care - Addressing our financial challenges
The Department of Health (DoH) will soon publish reset plans for the health and social care system in NI, which will build on the approach set out in the HSC Three Year Plan to 'stabilise', 'reform', and 'deliver'. The document will also specify actions being taken in response to the severe financial pressures this year, with a projected £600m shortfall between available funding and the cost of maintaining services.
At this webinar, Mike Farrar, Permanent Secretary, DoH, will detail the approach to be adopted towards the reset and set out what will be asked of the HSC system. After his presentation, the session chair, Professor Mark Taylor, will invite comment from several HSC leaders and a range of key stakeholders. Following this, there will be ample time for discussion to explore the opportunities and challenges ahead. We will also hear from Layla McCay, Director of Policy, NHS Confederation, on the lessons and parallels arising from the 10 Year Health Plan for England: fit for the future, which was published on 3 July 2025.
This session is being held as part of NICON's 'Grasping the Nettle' webinar series, which will run throughout 2025. This series focuses on 'nettles' (strategic priorities) we must grasp to drive progress across health and social care.
