This new briefing highlights the key discussion points from our roundtable event, where senior health and care representatives from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland gathered to share perspectives on the specific challenges they face following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.

The briefing outlines the areas that both jurisdictions believe the government needs to address when considering the impact of the EU exit on health and social care across the island of Ireland. These are:

  • maintaining shared services
  • adequate supply of safe and qualified healthcare staff
  • mutual recognition of professional qualifications
  • consistency in application of professional regulation in both jurisdictions.

The key issues in the briefing are being presented to the Cavendish Coalition for consideration, as part of their ongoing work to ensure that health and social care staff and services are supported and sustained as the UK prepares to exit the EU.
