Public Accounts Committee’s inquiry into mental health services for children and young people: NHS Clinical Commissioners' written evidence
Call for NHS England to ringfence funding for children and young people’s mental health.
Clinical commissioners call for NHS England to ringfence funding for children and young people’s mental health.
We have submitted evidence to this inquiry. Our main recommendations are:
- Government need to regularly commission a survey of children and young people’s mental health. This should be at least every 7 years.
- Need a better metric for measuring the Mental Health Investment Standard.
- NHS England needs to consider how it prioritises preventative approaches in the forthcoming long-term plan; and Government needs to consider mental health when developing the prevention green paper and planning the next spending review.
- Call on NHS England to ringfence funding for children and young people’s mental health, but it needs to be seen in the context of the wider NHS funding settlement and the environment in which CCGs are working.
