Responding to the latest review of Coronavirus regulations by the Welsh Government, Darren Hughes, director of the Welsh NHS Confederation said:

“It’s good news that four people from two households will now be able to meet outdoors, allowing us to see some friends or family again. However, it’s essential that we all continue to be cautious so that we will be able to ease restrictions further and reduce the enormous pressure on staff working in health and care.

“It’s encouraging to see Coronavirus rates continuing to fall across Wales, and the subsequent reduction of patients in hospital with the virus. However, we need the capacity within the NHS to be able to treat as many people as possible in a safe way.

“We know restrictions are hard for people and we’re grateful to NHS staff, our partners and the Welsh public who have all worked so hard to drive down the rate of infection. It’s important that we don’t waste these efforts and reverse the hard-won progress we’ve made, especially given the potential for new variants to alter the current trajectory.

“We urge people to continue to access NHS services when required. The NHS is still here for you and your loved ones.”
