The Royal College of Emergency Medicine produces a report on improving safety ahead of this year’s winter

This report explores the scale of challenge across the UK both in winter and all year round, it finds that escalating demand is putting pressure on emergency departments equivalent to around 13 new emergency departments. The paper goes on to note the different levels at which A&E departments are likely to be operating this winter, before concluding that hospital boards should be made aware of any risk so that they can act on it appropriately.

Public Health England look at how community-centred practice could reach vulnerable groups

This paper on community-centred practice outlines what steps NHS organisations and staff can do to promote practice that engages traditionally marginalised and vulnerable groups. It notes that more should be done to involve the community in decisions about their care and that more programmes designed to foster peer-to-peer support should be established. The paper estimates that commissioners could save as much as £5.2million per year if they implement effective community-centred practice in their patch.
