Responding to YouGov polling that shows over half of people say their health has worsened due to the rising cost of living, Matthew Taylor chief executive of the NHS Confederation said:

“Health leaders see the impact of the rising cost of living on their patients and local communities every day. They are very concerned about the direct impact effect rising costs are having on people’s health at a time of ever-increasing pressures on health services.

“The evidence on the negative impact of food poverty, poor quality housing, air pollution and increasing energy costs on health is overwhelming, and the Government must detail how it will address the country’s health divide in its forthcoming health inequalities white paper including a cross-government strategy and commitment to tackle the issues head on.”
