Medical and Dental Staff - Industrial Action 2023-2024 (Updated 9th April 2024)
Following confirmation that the Welsh Government and BMA Wales' three national committees representing consultants, SAS Doctors and junior doctors have agreed to formal negotiations about pay, the BMA has suspended planned industrial action during these negotiations.
As a result, these pages will remain in place but will not be updated further at this time.
Medical and Dental (W) Pay Dispute 2023 - 2024 - Industrial Action
This page provides the latest information, guidance and agreed processes to support employers to manage effectively through periods of national dispute and action.
In times of national disputes, local partnership arrangements are not the ones that are responsible for the dispute, nor can they resolve a national dispute. However, good partnership working and maintaining dialogue between managers and staff is needed to agree local service provision on strike days and to preserve working relationships that will be needed after the dispute has ended.
Any local response to industrial action must take account of the need to maintain patient services in the long, as well as short term, and avoid escalation of the dispute and/or cause lasting damage to local industrial relations.
Confirmed BMA Industrial Action - Junior Doctors
Following confirmation of the Ballot outcome on 18th December 2023, the BMA Welsh Junior Doctors Committee are calling on junior doctors to take part in a 3rd period of Strike Action has been confirmed as a full withdrawal of labour for a 96-hour continuous period between 7am Monday 25th March 2024 and 7am Friday 29th March (Good Friday, Public Bank Holiday).

Confirmed BMA Industrial Action - Consultants
Following confirmation of the Ballot outcome on 4th March 2024, the BMA Welsh Consultants Committee are calling on Consultants to take part in a period of Strike Action. This has been confirmed as a withdrawal of labour (with the exception of those providing "Christmas Day" cover, for a 48-hour continuous period between 7am Tuesday 16th April 2024 and 7am Thursday 18th April.
