This report, written by Professor Ruth Sealy of the University of Exeter Business School, summarises demographic data from 452 organisations, including arm's-length bodies, NHS trusts and clinical commissioning groups.

This report makes a number of recommendations. The focus must now be a call to action to drive up the proportion of women on NHS boards to reach gender balance.

The report has been published in conjunction with NHS Employers and NHS Improvement.
