Professor Partha Kar

Professor Partha Kar is a National Specialty Advisor in Diabetes with NHS England and co-author of the national diabetes Getting It Right First Time report.

He has been a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust since 2008 and a pioneer of The Super Six Diabetes Model, which is recognised as one of the good examples of integrated care.

Other work has included input in updating of driving guidelines in relation to use of technology in those living with diabetes, helping to develop a virtual reality programme to improve hospital safety and starting work on increased mental health access for diabetes patients across the NHS.

Partha received an OBE in the New Year's Honours List in 2021 for his services to diabetes care.

Beyond diabetes, Partha has recently taken up the role of Director of Equality, Medical Workforce in the NHS. This involves tackling issues of racial disparity in referrals to GMC, senior leadership positions and greater support of International Medical Graduates coming to the UK to work in the NHS.
