Dr Liam Loftus
Liam is a GP with a strong track record in health policy, leadership development and addressing the social determinants of health through cross-sector collaboration.
He has worked nationally at NHS England as clinical fellow to the national medical director, supporting the development and implementation of primary care policy. He is currently associate director at the Health Equity Evidence Centre, where he uses the evidence insights generated by the team to support national policymakers with taking action to reduce health inequalities. Passionate about engaging the next generation in policy, Liam co-led The Big GP Consultation, co-producing a positive vision for the future of general practice and supporting national adoption of its recommendations.
Liam also brings a deep commitment to leadership development. He led the creation of The Leadership Ladder ,a Health Education England-backed platform accessed by all 5,000 junior doctors and dentists in the East of England. He has also played a key role, including a period as national lead, in Next Generation GP, a grassroots programme that has equipped over 3,000 early-career GPs with leadership skills.
Beyond the NHS, Liam is development director at Cambridge City Foodbank, where he is pioneering a more holistic model of support. He led the development of an innovative social supermarket model, which incorporates on-site NHS services, such as health checks, social prescribing, and return-to-work support, in order to reach some of the most disadvantaged communities in the city.
