Dr Julia Simon

Leadership and Improvement Associate

After a first career in academia, where Julia lectured in philosophy in the US and at Oxford, Julia joined the NHS on the management training scheme and has spent the last 20 years in the intersection of healthcare policy, strategy and transformational change. She’s worked locally — most recently as director of strategy and partnerships at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in London — as well as regionally and nationally.  She helped establish the new clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in the 2012 national health reforms. She then spent the next few years leading the development of new national commissioning policy for NHS England, working closely with CCGs, GPs and national bodies.

She's an experienced facilitator and leadership practitioner who has worked extensively with provider collaboratives, commissioners and local authorities on system transformation, as well as with individual boards and senior leadership teams on organisational development and change.  She is currently in the final part of training as an executive leadership coach with Tavistock Consulting and is working with clients from a range of sectors using Tavistock’s methodology of systems theory and psychodynamics.  Julia holds a BA, MA and PhD in philosophy, and an MSc in healthcare leadership and management.
