Andy Knox

Medical Director, NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board and GP Partner, Ash Trees Surgery, Carnforth

Andy Knox is a husband, father, and friend. He is the interim medical director for the Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB and is a GP partner at Ash Trees Surgery in Carnforth, as well as an Honorary Professor at Lancaster University Management School.

His work focuses on improving population health, tackling health inequity, system improvement and creating compassionate cultures.

He co-founded the LSC Population Health Leadership Academy, is a Population Health Associate at the King’s Fund, an Associate at the Centre for Population Health, on the faculty of the Institute for Health Improvement, a member of the NHS Assembly, chair of The Well Communities and part of the Poverty Truth Commission. Recently, he published his first book, Sick Society.

Andy is impressively tall when sitting down but disappointingly short when standing up, and he has a ridiculously loud laugh. He can often be found singing while walking with his Springer Spaniel and Labradoodle around the beautiful Morecambe Bay. He was recently awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list for services to primary care and health inequalities.

His claim to fame is that his grandpa invented Fairy Liquid and his cousin won the Great British Bake Off in 2019.
