Responding to the Welsh Government’s announcement of a one-off bonus payment for all NHS and social care staff in Wales, Darren Hughes, director of the Welsh NHS Confederation said:

“We welcome the announcement of a one-off bonus payment for all NHS and social care staff in Wales, in recognition of their extraordinary contribution to the Covid-19 pandemic response over the last 12 months.

“We are privileged to have a motivated and engaged healthcare workforce, with the capability and confidence to meet the needs of the people of Wales, particularly in times of crisis. It’s vital that we all show how much we value and support them as we reset and rebuild services.”

“The approaching anniversary of the first lockdown in Wales serves as a reminder that health and social care staff continue to work, day in day out to protect and care for our communities, and we cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication.

“We know that staff have had to deal with the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic both at work and at home, and the sacrifices they’ve made should not be forgotten.

“We need the public to keep up the good work by continuing to stick to the rules for a while longer, so that we can look to getting more health and care services back up and running”.
