Support Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week 2024

#EQW2024 is taking place on 13-17 May and is a national campaign for health and care organisations.

9 May 2024

Now in its twelfth year, Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week is a platform for health and care organisations to highlight their work to create a fairer and more inclusive NHS for patients and staff.

During the week, health and care organisations from across the country support the campaign and host activities to promote and celebrate the great work taking place around equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Each day will focus on a different theme and will share good practice during the week. This year, we are celebrating and promoting the work of the NHS Confederation's three diverse leadership networks: Health and Care Women Leaders Network,  Health and Care LGBTQ+ Leaders Network and the BME Leadership Network.

Joan Saddler OBE, Director of Partnerships and Equality, NHS Confederation said:

“Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week provides a platform to celebrate our diverse workforce and also reminds us of the work we need to do to tackle inequality. The NHS was created to tackle inequality and this remains its core function as per the NHS Constitution. EDI is an investment that can improve staff experience and wellbeing, and also enhance service design and delivery.

To attract the next generation of caring professionals we need to be clear in our mission to live our values, embrace diversity and create an inclusive NHS for future generations.”

The themes for the week:

Monday 13 May: Hidden disabilities

Wednesday 15 May: Creating anti-racist organisations with the BME Leadership Network

Thursday 16 May: A spotlight on the Health and Care Women Leaders Network

Friday 17 May: International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) with the Health and Care LGBTQ+ Leaders Network
