Mental health trusts call for guaranteed mental health representation on ICS NHS boards

01 / 04 / 2021

Twenty-nine mental health trust chairs have co-signed a letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care calling for mental health representation to be mandated on integrated care system (ICS) NHS boards.

Key points

Not having mental health representation on boards would:

  • be a backward step for the parity of esteem for people who use mental health services
  • pose the risk of distorting the distribution of resources for mental health care providers
  • risk setting back the progress of mental health organisations working with third and independent sector partners, who will have a vital role in supporting recovery post pandemic.

Mental health trusts are calling for guaranteed mental health representation on ICS NHS boards.
