Welsh NHS Confederation response to the Helen Mary Jones legislative proposal

03 / 09 / 2019

On 20th June 2019, Helen Mary Jones AM tabled a Legislative Proposal (the Proposal) to the National Assembly for Wales. The Proposal would establish a professional body for NHS Managers; ensure the independence of Health Inspectorate Wales; establish a legal duty of candour; and establish a transparent complaints system. We acknowledge the concerns and issues raised by Helen Mary Jones AM within her Proposal. The Proposal is an opportunity to further stimulate debate around whether legislation is required to help improve the quality of healthcare services in Wales and to bring the current NHS governance structures up to date and ensure its functions are fit for purpose. The policies we currently have within NHS Wales and the draft Health and Social Care Quality and Engagement (Wales) Bill already addresses several areas within the Proposal.
