EU Health Programme 2014-2020

The EU's new Health Programme aims to build on the achievements of the previous EU Health Programme and better enable health to contribute to economic growth and the Europe 2020 objectives. It has an increased budget of €449.4m for the seven year period. It has four main objectives:    
  • Promote health, prevent disease and foster supportive environments for healthy lifestyles 
  • Protect citizens from serious cross-border health threats 
  • Contribute to innovative, efficient and sustainable health systems 
  • Facilitate access to better and safer healthcare for EU citizens  

2020 work plan

The European Commission has adopted its HealthWork Programme for 2020 setting out the priorities and actions to be undertaken during next year. The total budget will be over €69 million.

Projects

In July 2017, the European Commission launched a new online database providing information on projects funded by the EU Health Programme. Access the database.

National Focal Point

The NHS European Office is the UK’s National Focal Point for the EU Health Programme. 

Joint Actions

The Health Programme will also continue to provide financial support for Joint Actions. Joint actions are activities carried out by the EU and Member States or by the EU and the competent authorities of other countries participating in the Health Programme together. They focus on the greatest cross-border public health needs.
