Responding to the withdrawal millions of sets of protective eyewear ("Tiger Eye") and the issuing of an alert by the MHRA, Niall Dickson, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, which represents organisations across the healthcare sector, said:
"Another serious PPE incident is not we need right now, and yet again this is likely to hit the confidence of frontline staff in protective equipment.
"These stocks must now be identified and withdrawn. The Government insists there is no shortage of appropriate eye protection and we must hope that assurance is justified.
"But we cannot stress strongly enough that healthcare staff need to know that they will have what they need when they need it, and that they will be properly protected at all times. We are not yet in that position and we cannot afford further delay in getting there."
