Stevens’ push on capital funding, social care and public health welcomed by NHS Confederation

Niall Dickson

Responding to the Confed19 speech by NHS England Chief Executive Simon Stevens, Niall Dickson, Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation, said:

“It was a very comprehensive speech that covered a huge number of areas. Firstly the news that he will be here next year is significant. A lot of people will find that reassuring to have a stable figure in very unstable times.

“He was optimistic about the Long Term Plan but I think he hasn’t answered the fundamental question about whether the health service over the next few years will be able to manage demand effectively and deliver transformation.

“I strongly welcome his commitment to push on issues like capital funding, social care and public health all of which will be absolutely essential if we are to deliver the Long Term Plan.”
