Solutions to social care crisis exist - now we need political commitment to end unfairness, says NHS Confederation

Niall Dickson

Responding to the IPPR's report on social care, Niall Dickson, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, which leads the Health for Care coalition, said:

"Today sees another credible proposal for tackling the crisis in social care which is putting extreme pressure on hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable people in this country.

"Countless people and their families are facing intolerable conditions just to get the basic care they need, and this also has a knock-on effect for social care's sister service, the NHS.

"Clearly solutions exist and what we need now, after decades of neglect from all parties in Government, is the commitment to end this unfairness.

“That is why the NHS Confederation is leading Health for Care, a coalition of 15 health organisations making the case for a sustainable long-term settlement for social care. This issue must be addressed in the upcoming spending review."
