Responding to the Spring Statement, Niall Dickson, Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation, which represents organisations across the healthcare sector, said:
"If you are searching for small crumbs of comfort, there was at least a passing reference to social care services which are in urgent need of funding and reform.
"For too long the plight of millions of vulnerable people who need this support has been ignored. We now need the autumn spending review both to deal with the immediate crisis and lay the ground for a new long term settlement .
"We also needed to hear acknowledgement of the NHS workforce crisis and an end to the savage cuts in public health, sadly both were missing.
"The Chancellor's statement does make clear that any no-deal Brexit will have profound implications for our public services, including the NHS and social care. For the sake of patients we need to see an orderly exit."
