The future must be about how we work togther, says Community Network in response to LGA 'green paper'

Matthew Winn

Responding to the Local Government Association’s (LGA) consultation on social care, Matthew Winn, chair of the Community Network, which has been established by the NHS Confederation and NHS Providers, said:

“It is essential we tackle the crisis in social care which effects communities enormously and has put pressure on the NHS. The current levels of unmet need are unacceptable and leave many people without the care they need.

"The future must be about how we work together to support people to stay well for longer, provide more care closer to home and strengthen the links between primary care, community services and social care.  The NHS long-term plan provides an opportunity to turn this vision into reality.

“Alongside this we urgently need to see the Government’s own social care green paper. Without long-term reform and appropriate funding for social care we are doomed to short-term fixes, instability and growing pressure on people and services."
