Responding to the CQC report ‘Sexual safety on mental health wards’, Sean Duggan, chief executive of the Mental Health Network, which is part of the NHS Confederation, said:
“People are admitted to mental health wards at their most vulnerable and they have a right to feel safe. We must absolutely do everything we can to make sure all people using mental health services, as well as staff, are protected.
“This report, to which our members made a significant contribution, highlights what are evidently incredibly serious issues.
“There is a real commitment from across the sector to tackle the issues raised and we look forward to working with the CQC and others on this important agenda.
“It is important that providers of mental health services have the resources they need to safely staff and manage services - the long-term plan and financial settlement is an opportunity to ensure mental health has the funding that is needed.”
