An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Industry Engagement and Policy to join the commercial directorate  at NHS Confederation, a membership body that brings together and speaks on behalf of all organisations that plan, commission and provide NHS services.

The relationships with Industry form a major part of the NHS Confederation’s extensive programme of commercial activities which play a critical role in generating income for the organisation and this role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead the policy work and engagement linking industry with the NHS.

About the NHS Confederation
The NHS Confederation is the independent voice of NHS leadership. Our aim is an empowered healthy population supported by world class health and care services. Our 500+ members span the full range of organisations that provide and commission services including acute, community, mental health and ambulance service trusts; independent providers; clinical commissioning groups; and academic health science networks. We work across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and have a European Office focused on Brexit and international learning opportunities. We support our members to address the policy and strategic challenges facing the health and care system, influence the development of national policy and represent their views at the highest levels and in the public arena. In the last few months we have been working with members to ensure that there has been sufficient Government support to manage Covid-19 and we are now working on how we restore health and care services  more widely as part of our #NHSReset campaign.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Extensive experience in the development of health strategy or policy
  • Successful track record of delivering insightful and influential thought leadership content
  • Experience of developing policy led content for events
  • Experience of managing relationships at a senior level
  • Record of working collaboratively with partner organisations to build coalitions and achieve shared goals.
  • Experience of communicating policy and thought leadership content across a range of communication channels, including media, social media and digital platforms.
  • Experience of liaising with senior leaders in a given field and engaging a policy community
  • Experience of working in a matrix-style organisation and across departments
The role
 
This role works with policy and comms colleagues across the organisation to provide policy insights to our commercial partners and to develop content for major events.  The post holder will have a strong background in health policy. 

This position will sit within the commercial team which includes a Head of Commercial and Head of Events who this role would work alongside (as outlined in the structure chart below) Our Head of Commercial leads a team that develop and manage relationships with commercial partners  and works with partners to generate approx. £2.5 million from sponsorship, exhibitions and other commercial partnerships.  Our Head of Events leads a team delivering over 100 events per year.

This role will work closely with the Heads of both the Commercial and the events team leading on our policy work and playing a key role in building relationships with commercial partners, helping shape proposals and developing new products that support our members and engage commercial partners. 

You will use insights from internal relationships across the organisation to inform and develop content for our wider events programme.  Finally, you will also work with our events team and colleagues in NHS England / NHS Improvement to shape the programme for NHS ConfedExpo, our major event for NHS leaders.  The content from this event really sets the agenda on health policy, so you will have a key role in shaping the narrative that supports this.
