FHN and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust held a study visit to the newly completed St. James's Institute of Oncology in Leeds on 18th April.
This event featured presentations on the service model, the innovative features of the project and the commercial associate perspective. There was also a tour of the building, which is equipped with high-tech specialist treatment equipment (including 12 linear accelerator treatment rooms) and space for 350 inpatients.
The building is an unusual composite steel and concrete structural solution, and is decked throughout with artwork to enhance the patient experience. The centre has revolutionised cancer care for the people of Leeds and Yorkshire and is an important asset for the NHS as a whole.
This visit to this state-of-the-art building was an informative and interesting event, and was a celebration of FHN, being the last event run by the network.
