Overview of 2011

At the start of the year, our members told us that the NHS reforms and transition to the new system, as well as NHS finances and quality of services were the national issues of key concern to NHS leaders.

We have been working hard to represent our members’ views and influence policy developments in these key areas, as well as to help make sense of these developments for the whole of the NHS.

“The NHS Confed is a very valuable organisation in influencing policy and providing information on a wide and sometimes detailed range”

We have played a key role in continuing to publicly highlight the impact that the financial squeeze is having on the health and social care system, and have been increasingly vocal about the need to open up honest discussion with patients and the public about the difficult decisions that NHS leaders are having to make. Industry-wide support functions

The NHS Employers organisation has been very effective in its work to support and represent NHS organisations on workforce related issues over the past year, particularly on the high profile issues of pension reform and industrial action. Our NHS European Office has also made a significant impact in Europe, influencing the Working Time Directive and legislation on the mobility of health professionals, medical devises and clinical trials.

Our networks

You can also find out how our networks have been supporting our members on areas of specific concern for mental health providers, emergency care services and independent sector providers.
