Our work is driven by a commitment to enhancing the reputation of PCTs within the NHS and wider stakeholders.

Our programme of work is organised around five main priorities areas:

Strengthening commissioning:

  • supporting members in delivering world-class commissioning
  • working with the Mental Health Network on the commissioning of mental health services

Primary and community services:

  • focusing on the commissioning of primary care services in relation to access targets and addressing unwarranted variation in quality
  • working with provider services to offer support and act as a conduit for shared learning

Reducing health inequalities in partnership with local government:

  • working to develop mechanisms for accessing care
  • identifying issues for PCTs to contribute to wider life chances of local people
  • influencing the debate on local accountability

Regulation and system management:

  • continuing to contribute to the NHS Confederation's overall aim of minimising the burden of regulation on the NHS and ensuring the PCT voice is heard

Enhancing PCT reputation:

  • actively promoting the work of PCTs among key opinion formers
  • promoting the work and reputation of the network to PCTs, the wider NHS and external partners.
