Flowers against the sky

The PCT Network has five key priority work areas for 2007/08, plus a number of additional work areas. These areas are underpinned by the overarching aim to enhance the reputation of PCTs. The priorities were agreed by the PCT Network board at the inaugural board meeting in May 2007, and were enhanced by ideas from the inaugural Network AGM in June 2007. The PCT Network work programme is led by David Stout, PCT Network director, and is steered by the PCT Network board members.

PCT Network work programmes:

Strengthening commissioning. This work area is a key priority for the Network, with a major focus on support and development programme for PCTs around the world class commissioning competencies.

Development of practice based commissioning. Practice based commissioning (PbC) is an integral part of world class commissioning.

Reducing health inequalities and local authority relationships. The PCT Network has developed a contact programme with key stakeholders in social care to maximise the opportunity for joint working.

Developing the PCT provider function. The PCT Network work programme aims to share information and issues arising from a range of options being considered across the country.

Governance/regulation. The regulatory landscape is changing rapidly and the PCT Network aims to stay ahead of developments and influence the proposed changes positively for our members.

Enhancing the reputation of PCTs. This work programme is at the core of the Network's aim to champion the reputation of PCTs within the NHS and wider stakeholders.

Additional PCT work areas. These include PCT financial management and value for money, service strategy and re-design, public engagement and the commissioning of primary care services.
