Responding to the launch of the Government’s ‘Every vaccine gives us hope’ campaign, Ruth Rankine, primary care director at the NHS Confederation, said:

“The remarkable efforts of so many people across the NHS, including across primary care, have led to the overwhelming success of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign with nearly two-thirds of UK adults having had at least one jab. In turn, this has meant parts of our pre-pandemic lives have been able to return and something approaching normal is on the horizon.

“As well as ramping up their non-vaccine work, our teams are ready and waiting to finish the job. The vaccine is proving highly effective and it is safe, so we need people to come forward when they are asked.

“In the meantime, we need everyone to abide by the rules so we can continue this path to freedom without increasing risk. With multiple cases in the UK of mutant strains of the coronavirus from India and South Africa, it is vital that we do not overestimate current levels of public protection against COVID-19."
