Mapped: England’s local economic growth leaders

Sustainability and transformation plan (STP) leads can now quickly and easily identify their local leaders of economic growth, enabling local NHS organisations to forge crucial relationships with local decision-makers and funders.

A new interactive map, developed by the NHS Confederation, plots STP footprints against local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) and, where appropriate, combined authorities.

It enables STP leads to establish closer links with their respective leaders of growth, helping NHS organisations to bring in long-term external funding, exert more influence over strategic decision-making and improve services locally.

Supporting local planning

England's 39 LEPs are business-led bodies authorised by government to provide local strategic economic leadership of growth. These bodies and combined authorities will work closely in the coming years to shape their own economic development plans.

STP leads are encouraged to initiate early discussions to see how better partnership working can support local planning.

Ground-breaking initiative

The resource comes as part of the Confederation’s ground-breaking work to secure NHS involvement in local economic growth.

Led by Michael Wood, the NHS local growth adviser – the first such role of its kind – the initiative aims to help the NHS to build partnerships with its local economy to drive lasting improvements in public services.
