Flowers against the sky

The NHS Confederation is the independent membership body for the full range of organisations that make up today’s NHS.

The Mental Health Network (MHN) was established as part of the NHS Confederation to provide a distinct voice for mental health and learning disability service providers.

The network aims to improve the system for patients and staff by raising the profile of mental health issues and increasing the influence of mental health and disability providers.

It has an independent board elected by its members. The board is made up of a range of voices including providers, clinicians, service users and partner organisations.

Steve Shrubb is the director of the Mental Health Network. He oversees a dedicated team of staff and steers the work programme on behalf of MHN members.

New Vision or mental health
New vision cover image The Future Vision Coalition has called for action to build on the successes of the National Service Framework (NSF) for Mental Health, to put mental wellbeing at the centre of public policy and to improve the quality of life of all people with mental health problems. It calls for a champion in the Cabinet, recognising that mental wellbeing is the business of the whole of government, and wants mental health services to focus on helping people to get their lives back, not just to manage their illness. The coalition comprises the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, the Mental Health Foundation, Mind, Rethink, Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, Together: Working for Wellbeing and the NHS Confederation Mental Health Network. See our press release for more details.

Mental Health Network responds to National CAMHS review consultation
The Mental Health Network has collated the detailed responses of more than 20 mental health trusts which provide CAMHS to form a collective response to the national CAMHS review consultation. Most of these trusts are the principal providers in their area of tier 3 & 4 CAMHS, with variable input into tiers 1& 2. They represent a wide geographical spread, with at least one representative from each SHA region. The CAMHS review an independent review, sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department of Health. We see the Review as an opportunity to highlight the challenges facing CAMHS providers and their views on what change is needed.
