Press release: NHS Confederation responds to Caring Choices report

The NHS Confederation was one of fifteen organisations involved in running the Caring Choices initiative. The results of the nine-month consultation were published today in The Future of Care Funding: Time for a change.
Commenting on the report, Nigel Edwards, director of policy at the NHS Confederation, said:
"As the report highlights, there is an obvious and immediate need to address funding over the next ten to fifteen years. However, as the number of older people requiring care continues to increase, so too will the need for a brave, farsighted solution. As part of a long-term, cross-party response, government should introduce mechanisms to help people to make provisions now to meet their future needs, rather than relying on the current 'pay-as-you-go' system."
