Press release: NHS Confederation responds to the Healthcare Commission's State of Healthcare report

Commenting on the report, Dr Gill Morgan, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, which represents 95% of NHS Organisations said:

"This report paints a generally positive picture for the NHS and its patients and we agree with the Commission that this should be recognised. We are also under no illusions that further improvements have to be made - especially in relation to provision of services for the least well-off. 

"Delivering universal services fit for the 21st century is a highly complex job.  While rightly celebrating the achievements made so far, the Healthcare Commission's report provides clinicians and managers with clear direction on where the focus must now rest to improve services.  This is sensible regulation and something that our members appreciate.

"It is important to note from the report that PCTs still face challenges as a result of their reorganisation. There is a key lesson here that, if NHS organisations are to deliver on the changes that need to be made, further restructuring of the system should be avoided."
