Press release: Foundation Trust Network responds to Monitor's review and conolidated accounts for foundation trusts
28 Nov 2007
Commenting on Monitor's publication, Sue Slipman, director of the Foundation Trust Network, said:
"We welcome the findings of this review, which demonstrate that foundation trusts are not only achieving strong financial management but are also providing good quality care. They are in a really strong position to continually improve performance and to innovate new services in the interests of their patients.
"Foundation trusts recognise there are many challenges ahead. They are growing to meet these by improving the way in which their boards work and expanding the involvement of their members and governors. Critical to their future success will be a healthcare system that operates consistently and fairly, in which they are able to build mature relationships with those who commission their services."

Notes for editors
1. The Foundation Trust Network represents existing foundation trusts as well as over 40 acute and mental health trusts preparing for foundation status. It was established in June 2004 to represent the views of foundation trusts, to influence health policy and to share learning and good practice. The Network is hosted by the NHS Confederation.
2. The NHS Confederation represents more than 95% of the organisations that make up the NHS. Its members include the majority of NHS acute trusts, ambulance trusts, foundation trusts, mental health trusts, primary care trusts, special health authorities and strategic health authorities in England; trusts and local health boards in Wales; and health and social service trusts and boards in Northern Ireland.
