Commenting on the appointment of Bruce Keogh as the NHS medical director, Dr Gill Morgan, chief executive of the NHS Confederation which represents over 95 per cent of NHS organisations, said:
"Bruce Keogh is an outstanding clinician and a dedicated individual. I am sure he will be a genuine force for good in improving treatment for patients. We look forward at the Confederation to working with Bruce as he builds on the truly excellent work he has done with the Healthcare Commission in setting up the central cardiac audit database.
Delivering the best possible care for patients is what being a clinician is all about and we welcome the move to bring Bruce in as NHS medical director with the specific aim of improving the performance of our health services."
