Press release: NHS Confederation comment on David Cameron's speech to Conservative conference
05 Oct 2006
Nigel Edwards, director of policy at the NHS Confederation which represents over 90 per cent of NHS organisations, said:
"David Cameron's words of support for the NHS and promise of no further reorganisations are welcome.
"It is very important for the health service to be given the freedom to get on with the day-to-day business under a strategic framework from government and for us to be measured by how we treat patients and what outcomes we deliver, not simply by top down targets.
"We need a new relationship between politicians and the NHS, and Mr Cameron's speech, along with contributions on the fringe, hinted at some thoughtful solutions to this issue. It is perhaps too early to be asking for details but these will be important."
