An NHS Confederation one-day conference
Thursday, April 28

Dr David Colin-Thome, the Department of Health's National Clinical Director for Primary Care, is the keynote speaker at a major primary care conference this Thursday (April 28). He will address delegates at the NHS Confederation conference which is being held at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London.

Primary care is becoming ever more complex with an increasing range of models of commissioning and a growing number of service providers from the independent, private and voluntary sectors.
Those working in primary care trusts face a major shift from delivering services to co-ordinating the delivery of care.

A series of interactive workshops on primary care 'hot topics' will introduce practical tools for working with new partnership and contracting arrangements and new government frameworks.
Workshop topics include:

* Agenda for Change and delivering service developments.
* Payment by Results.
* Practice-based commissioning.
* Alternative Providers of Medical Services (APMS).
* Long-term conditions.

Workshop leaders include:

* Agenda for Change - Bill McMillan (Team Leader, NHS Employers' Pay Modernisation Unit's best practice team for AfC) and Simon Whitehouse (Director of Workforce Modernisation, Central Cheshire PCT).

* Payment by Results - John Flook (Financial Adviser, NHS Confederation).

* Practice-based commissioning - Jon Chadwick (Chief Executive, Langbaurgh PCT).

* APMS - Sarah Chilvers (Chilvers McCrea Healthcare).

* Long-term conditions - Penelope Haile (Director of Emergency and Elective Care, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust)

John Bewick, NHS Confederation Policy Adviser, will launch the conference with a plenary session at 10am, workshops will run from 10.30am to 3.45pm, and David Colin-Thome will deliver his keynote address at 4pm.
Venue: Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 27 Sussex Place, Regents Park, London, NW1 4RG.

Time: 10am - 4.30pm (coffee and registration from 9am)
Date: Thursday, April 28
