Press release: NHS Confederation backs conclusion of CHI mental health report
18 Dec 2003
The NHS Confederation today backs the Commission for Health Improvement's report into NHS mental health services as an accurate snap shot of the important developments in NHS mental health and the challenges still facing the service.
Dr Gill Morgan, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, said: "This report makes a valuable contribution by highlighting the truth of the current state of NHS mental health services. It reflects what our members have been saying. Major improvements have been made and staff deserve recognition for this progress. However, mental health is still not receiving the attention or investment it needs within the NHS. Although there is a growing appreciation of this, steps still need to be taken to reduce the gap between rhetoric and reality. We now need to place as much emphasis on improving mental health as we have had on cutting waiting lists."
