Press release: Increase in outpatient activity welcomed
21 Aug 2003
Responding to Audit Scotland's report on the recording of outpatient activity the Scottish NHS Confederation today welcomed the fact that more patients are being seen in outpatient departments.
The Confederation's Director Hilary Robertson said: "The NHS in Scotland has achieved considerable success in treating more people as outpatients and offering a greater range of care on an outpatient basis. The increase in outpatient care means fewer people have to be admitted to hospital for treatment which is good news for patients."
Ms Robertson continued: "However, the recording of outpatient activity has lagged behind as a result of the speed and degree of the increase. Progress is being made in implementing new systems of recording but there is still some way to go."
