Press release: The NHS Confederation responds to announcement on proposed pension reform
11 Jun 2003
Gill Morgan, Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation today responded to the Department of Work & Pensions proposals on pension reform outlined in 'Action on occupations pensions'. Dr Morgan commented:
"We welcome the fact that the Government has confirmed that it intends to work with employers and employee representatives on the transition to a normal pension age of 65 in the public sector. The Confederation is well placed to influence this debate in the NHS through its leadership of the NHS Pension Scheme Modernisation review. It is important that the views of employers and staff about this change are taken into account, so that final decisions on the transition to a new pension age are fair and transparent."

Our members include the majority of NHS trusts, primary care trusts and health authorities in England; trusts and local health boards in Wales; trusts and NHS boards in Scotland; and health and social services trusts and boards in Northern Ireland.
- The NHS Confederation announced in April 2003 that it has been invited by the Department of Health to lead on behalf of NHS employers, in conjunction with the Department of Health, the NHS Pensions Agency and the National Assembly for Wales, a modernisation review of the NHS Pension Scheme. It is hoped the review will have proposals ready for consultation by the Autumn of 2004.
