Press release: New LHBs ready for the challenge, but need stability and sustained investment to help them deliver for Welsh patients
01 Apr 2003
The Welsh NHS Confederation, voice of NHS management in Wales, today welcomed the advent of the new Local Health Boards, and said that the priority was to ensure that they had the tools they need to do the job.
Director Richard Thomas said:
"We wish the new Local Health Boards every success as they take on their vital role, strengthening primary care at the heart of the health system, and helping to deliver high-quality services for Welsh patients. They face a very challenging agenda, and it's essential that they have the tools they need to do the job. This means in particular a period of stability after all the changes, and sustained support and investment. Top-quality management is also vital, and we are very pleased that the chief executives of the new LHBs bring with them a wealth of senior management experience, for example as managers of Local Health Groups and executive directors of trusts and health authorities.
The LHBs are well aware that they have a big job ahead of them, but they are ready for the challenge, and we at the Confederation are ready to support them."
