Press release: Confederation welcomes decisive yes vote for new consultant contract

Reacting to the result of the Scottish ballot on the new consultant contract announced today, Hilary Robertson, Director of the Scottish NHS Confederation said:
"Our members welcome the decisive yes vote for the new consultant contract in Scotland. It will underpin and strengthen the work being done by NHS organisations and consultants to improve and modernise the NHS in Scotland. The contract will enable consultants to be properly rewarded and allow managers to more effectively plan services, and improve the professional care patients already receive."
Ms Robertson continued: "We believe this is a good deal for individual consultants, the NHS, and for patients and we fully expect the result of the ballot will be recognised by the Scottish Executive and the new contract implemented."
