Press release: Dr Gill Morgan joins NHS Confederation as chief executive
05 Feb 2002
Dr Gillian Morgan, a senior NHS manager, who initially trained as a doctor and worked in a range of clinical settings, has joined the NHS Confederation as its new chief executive.
Commenting on her arrival, Dr Morgan said, "I believe that my appointment to lead the group that represents NHS organisations shows how much the divide between professionals and managers has broken down. This reflects the position at the frontline where improvement in the NHS depends on the combined efforts of all staff."
Dr Morgan continued, "The NHS is being encouraged to speak more and more for itself - the NHS Confederation is able to provide this independent voice, as shown by our leading the negotiations on the new GP Contract."
She concluded, "I have worked at all levels in the NHS and know that there is a vast reservoir of energetic leaders who are able and keen to lead modernisation from the front. The Confederation offers a strong voice for these leaders to get engaged in the debate about improving the NHS."
Dianne Jeffrey, chairman of the NHS Confederation said, "Gill brings a fresh perspective coming directly from leading an NHS organisation. I know she is looking forward to spending time with members across the UK to ensure the Confederation reflects the grassroots views of the NHS."
