Press release: Confederation launches new website for non-executive directors on NHS day

At the NHS Confederation's annual conference today, Sir William Wells, Chairman of the NHS Appointments Commission launched a web site for non-executives as part of the Confederation's nexus project*.
This web site is a new resource from the NHS Confederation, designed in conjunction with non-executives. Commenting on the launch, Confederation Chairman, Dianne Jeffrey, herself a non-executive said "we have been campaigning for some time to encourage the Department of Health to provide more training, support and developments for non-executives - they have begun to do that. Nexus does not replace the need for this - it is a complimentary service for non-executives, including providing this new "self-help" resource."
The web site's key feature is the "link" database, which allows non-executives to search for others with similar interests and experience. Mrs Jeffrey commented "this database is the first of its kind for non-executives. It will allow new non-executives to contact 'old hands' for help and advice, as well as putting more experienced ones in touch with each other. It encourages people to link across boundaries to share information and good practice."
The web site also contains news, briefing documents and other publications especially for non-executives, as well as hosting the new Department of Health "Welcome on Board" resource.

It aims to help them get up to speed quickly with the policy agenda and management issues; then keep up-to-speed with the ever-changing agenda and issues; and understand the "bigger picture" of modernising public services. It also supports their networking.
