What you need to know about choice and marketing

Choice is integral to the modernisation of the NHS and marketing is now more important in the NHS portfolio than ever. This session will look at how we can communicate our services to the public and build our reputation, whilst maintaining confidence in the NHS brand.

Day and time: Wednesday 16:00-17:30

Of interest to: CEOs of NHS Acute trusts and PCTs

Speakers: Nick Chapman (National Director,18 weeks, Department of Health) and Bob Ricketts (Director of System Management and New Enterprise, Department of Health)

The bug stops here! A zero tolerance to infection

Improving outcomes, delivering safe care and enhancing efficiency are at the heart of most trusts' plans. Organisations that have made significant reductions in infections have recognised that the gains made extend well beyond pure numbers. The organisational and behavioural changes required begin a major and positive cultural shift. This session will explore the features of these organisations, the actions required to drive sustained improvement and the impact this has on trusts. Case studies will be used to share practical actions. The learning from trusts and the National Programme will also be launched at the conference in a new DH publication.

Day and time: Thursday 16:30-18:00

Speakers: Janice Stevens (Associate Director for HCAI and Cleanliness Division, Department of Health) and Ginny Edwards (Head of Improvement Programme, HCAI and Cleanliness Division, Department of Health)

Delivering and sustaining 18 weeks

As set out in the 2008/09 Operating Framework, patient experience will be the ultimate measure of success in delivering improved access for patients. There is also increasing emphasis on commissioning for outcomes, focussing on the work regarding patient reported outcome measures.

Sustaining the gains from delivery of 18 weeks is a core focus for the future of planned care. This session will focus on planning for sustainability, both in the local health community and through the future national developments in planned care; linking to Lord Darzi's review. This session will also consider how we can ensure the magnitude of the achievement of 18 weeks in planned care is sustained and improved beyond December 2008.

Day and time: Friday 09:00-10:15

Speakers: Nick Chapman (National Director 18 Weeks, Department of Health) and Lynne Maher (Head of Innovation Practice, NHS Institute for Innovation & Improvement)
