Flowers against the sky

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has 'dual key' arrangements with other government departments, including the Department of Health (DH). These arrangements cover all main policy areas for children including children's sport, youth justice and child health and well-being. Secretary of State, Ed Balls, has announced a review of the Children's Plan and this should roll out over the next few months.

Recent highlights of the ongoing Change for Children programme include:

  • the Care Matters white paper on the care of looked after children
  • the National Clinical Director's reports on Children's and Maternity Services: Making it Better - For Children and Young People, and Making it better - For Mother and Baby
  • the joint DCSF/DH report on Standard 9 of the Children's NSF (on Child and Adolescent Mental Health)
  • a consultation on Staying Safe (the arrangements for safeguarding children)
  • development of the NHS Life Check for babies and children.
